Victoria lifted up my shirt and poked my belly button. Olivia shouted, “Don’t, Victoria, someone might be in there!”

Olivia screamed from the bathroom, “Mommy, my leg came out!” So I ran, freaking out….it turns out her pant leg was inside out.

Do you have kids? Do you sometimes want to send them to their bedroom until puberty? And other times, do you want to hug them until they burst?

What about those moments when they say something so innocent and incredibly cute or hilarious that you wish you had a pen and paper so you could remember it?

Well, that’s exactly what I did. My children have given my husband and I so many gifts, but the most precious has been laughter. I made a record of each funny or cute thing that they said since the moment they could speak.

It’s all here in this short yet unforgettable ‘Kids Say The Darndest Things’ style memoir.

No thanks, Mommy, I peed yesterday is a witty, side-splittingly funny comedy that can be enjoyed by both young and old.

The humorous comments, explanations, and kid-thoughts will stay with you for years to come!

I don’t read nonfiction very often, but I was glad I decided to pick up Sandy Applewood’s lovely collection. The title drew my attention—I can remember my daughter saying something similar to this about twenty (or a little more) years ago. My daughter is now an adult and my son is a teen, so I can say I dearly miss those times and all those adorable things they said when they were just barely old enough to talk. I appreciated the way this little memoir was put together—with cute snippets of hilarity, without a lot of filler. It brought a lot of memories back home, from bath times to learning to love the family cat. The writing is articulate and vivid, capturing those little moments very well, as though someone was just telling me about their kids rather than my reading about it. I know one day Olivia and Victoria will truly appreciate what their mommy did for them by putting this sweet collection together. Like many parents, I wish I had had the forethought jot down all the sweet things my children did or said, to share with them one day.

If you love lighthearted humor and kids, this is the perfect collection for you.

After reading this book, I thought to myself - this would be a great coffee table or bathroom book. It's quick little quips brought a smile to my face and confirms that alas, my children are about as normal as any child. I recognized a lot of the authors kids in my kids. There is lots of potty humor. Lots of switching around of words and meaning. Its so very cute and if you are a parent of a child who is of speaking age or older so very recognizable. I love the way kids think.
A delightful collection of funny children’s quips that had me laughing from beginning to end! I remembered special versions of songs and general learning of vocabulary that I could add to the book, too. I also realized how much of our time raising tots includes stifled snickers at their completely innocent mistakes.

Thank you, Sandy, for the laughs and memories! I think everyone raising a young child should keep a journal for these special moments, as our children grow up too quickly.
I never quite understood what being a mommy was or the weird stuff I heard parents yelling until I became one. Our son will be three next month and I'm still baffled by many things he does... the insistent need to watch the Mighty Machine's train episode again being one. The sweet hugs, beautiful hazel eyes, and "choo choo"s of Joe make it worthwhile though. It's amazing to watch your child grow up and especially when they develop speech...

In her lovely short, but sweet read, Sandy Appleyard, conveys the hilarity, frustration, and just plain weirdness of being a parent by reminiscing quotes of things her kiddos have said, asked, and answered. Highly recommend to anyone who works with or has children to be reminded of why we do what we do.
So many memories in the pages of this book. Anyone with children will enjoy the innocence, and the wide eyed look through a child's eyes at the world around us. While my children may not have said the same things, I was certainly reminded of the funny things they did say.
This is definitely a light read perfect for when your waiting around with nothing to do, and you need to smile.
Sandy Appleyard has cataloged the experiences many parents have with their children choosing the funny lighthearted moments that make being a parent fun. A few of the anecdotes hit very close to home, like #98, when her daughter Victoria saw a guinea pig for the first time, and was scared at first, then slowly started loving it, finally saying "Brownie funny... and scary."
My own daughter has said almost the exact same thing many times.
I could wish that a few of the anecdotes were longer, most are only two to three lines, and I think they could be expanded upon to make them even funnier, but as I said at the start, for something to read while waiting in line, or are on a bus or taxi.
